Sound Waves: Drowning Out The Noise
March 2021
Plywood
A handmade parametric wave sculpture inspired by the feeling of floating in the ocean and music that simulates the relationship between the body and the sensations of floating. While this sculpture visually displays ocean waves, each peak and trough are specified sound waves from the song “Feet in the Sand (Bonus Track)” by Hippie Sabotage.
Music allows Brianna to reach a place of peace and calm when floating in water isn’t accessible; it’s a way to drown out the noise. When performed, accompanied with music, this sculpture supports the body and rocks from side to side to simulate the action of floating in water.

Design Process
Utilizing SolidWorks 3D CAD software, the wave’s peaks and troughs are specifically designed and manipulated to recreate and combine sound waves taken from “Feet in the Sand (Bonus Track)” by Hippie Sabotage. After completing the 3D model, each of the 56 layers were hand transferred onto plywood, individually cut out, painted, and stacked to form the wave sculpture.
