The Endless Waveform

“The Endless Waveform” captures feelings of endlessness through a chaotic, yet harmonic and continuous flow of lines. The waveform acts as a catalyst to captivate the mind and evoke the feeling of losing control within the viewer as they themselves are swallowed by a sea of consciousness, an endlessness of thoughts. Similar to observing the waves in the ocean, this piece becomes a calming and hypnotizing object where one can find clarity, or embrace a lack of control, in their own thoughts and being.

This sculpture was created through freeform bending on a luthier's pipe. Each strip of veneer was handmade, so that I could control the thickness, width, and length to account for the variety of curves. As they were bent, I worked intuitively and experimented with different twists and turns. The strips were then laminated together and blended out at each seam to appear as one seamless line.
